NASCAR announces changes to NASCAR Hall of Fame induction process

first_imgDAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — NASCAR today announced changes to the NASCAR Hall of Fame nomination and induction processes, including reducing the annual number of inductees from five to three and splitting potential nominees into two ballots — one for contemporary stars and one for the sport’s pioneers.Starting with the upcoming Class of 2021, the existing Nomination Committee will provide 10 nominees for the Modern Era Ballot. A new Honors Committee — largely comprised of all living Hall of Famers, Landmark Award winners and Squier-Hall Award winners — will evaluate and provide five nominees for the Pioneer Ballot. The Voting Panel will meet in Charlotte on Wednesday, May 20 to debate, discuss and ultimately vote for the three-member Class of 2021 — two from the Modern Era Ballot and one from the Pioneer Ballot. All three are inducted equally, there will be no distinction between inductees from either ballot.RELATED: See all the members of the NASCAR Hall of FameCompetitors are eligible for the Modern Era Ballot if their career started within the past 60 years (1961 for Class of 2021). Nominees can stay on the Modern Era Ballot for up to 10 years. Those whose careers began more than 60 years ago or who have been on the Modern Era Ballot for 10 years will be eligible for the Pioneer Ballot.“When we opened the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2010, we had to catch up on more than 60 years of NASCAR history,” said NASCAR President Steve Phelps. “Our plan has always been to evaluate the process as the Hall of Fame matured. With 55 of the sport’s greatest competitors enshrined, we felt the time was right to move to three inductees, which will help maintain the high standard of enshrinement that’s been set.”“From the time I first learned of the selection process NASCAR developed in 2009 and through the evolutions implemented as we gained valuable experience, I have been a huge proponent of our process,” said NASCAR Hall of Fame Executive Director Winston Kelley. “I feel our process is as strong as any Hall of Fame, sport and entertainment alike. I am equally enthusiastic about these changes to our process and concur wholeheartedly that now is the right time to transition to fewer inductees and establish a process dedicated to NASCAR’s iconic pioneers.”Twelve representatives from the Honors Committee, including seven new voters — Richard Childress, Rick Hendrick, Ron Hornaday Jr., Dale Jarrett, Roger Penske, Darrell Waltrip and Rusty Wallace — will serve on the Voting Panel.Changes have also been made to crew chief eligibility to align it with driver eligibility. In addition to the requirement to participate in NASCAR for 10 years, crew chiefs must now also be retired for two years. Competitors with 30 years NASCAR experience and those aged 55 or higher are also eligible.last_img read more

Granted, Cadell has the round of his life

first_imgPSC golf from The Golf Club Sports BarMonday, August 22, Green Valley – Stableford1st- Grant Cadell (16) 44pts 2nd- Dale Shier (13) 40pts3rd- Peter Hind (19) 39ptsIt was a busy week at the Club with 4 days of glorious golf so let’s get right to it. Shooting 40 Stableford points is great golf and would usually win on any given day.  Imagine the mental turmoil, the gut-wrenching disappointment and utter frustration Dale Shier went through when he discovered Grant Cadell came in with 44 points!  Timing is everything and Shier (I before e except after c) should have saved his 40 for another day.Grant is quite possibly the nicest guy in Pattaya, so we were all actually quite happy to witness his amazing day at Green Valley.  Peter Hind came in 3rd with a highly respectable 39, but the golf is getting good out there once again.  Well played lads!Tuesday, August 23, Siam Old Course – Stableford1st Ian Rippey (10) 39pts2nd Walter Baichle (17) 35pts3rd Paul McNally (4) 32ptsIf you look at the bottom right corner of the PSC website homepage, you will see a poll for the favourite golf course in Pattaya that you can vote on.  There have been over 1,200 votes so far and not surprisingly the Schmidt-Curley redesigned Siam Old Course is on top.  We took advantage of the Tuesday Sports Day rate of 2,250 all in and 4 groups teed off the white tees on the day.Grant Cadell. The talented Mr. Rippey does it again!  The Ripster took full advantage of his local knowledge as a member and blasted away the rest of the field with a 39 on this difficult course.  Well played Ian, nice to have the putter working, isn’t it?Walter Baichle was in fine form as he was last week and beat many of the members who joined in with his handy 35.  Paul “Spike” McNally also got the members’ bounce with 32 points on the card to place third.Siam is a class act and you should spoil yourself once or twice a year and play this gem of a course and see for yourself why it got so many of the votes!Wednesday, August 24, Bangpra – Monthly Medal1st Alex Tregurtha (17) net 712nd Henry O’Brian (19) net 733rd Larry Maxey (19) net 76Off to the monkey course once again for the August Monthly Medal sponsored by Pattaya Pizza.  This is now one of the best courses Pattaya has to offer and is a must play for the golfing visitor on his tour.  Bangpra is probably as well known for the splendid Japanese toilets as her lightning fast greens.Ian Rippey & wife Mam.The Bob (of the Seamless variety) admitted to having  four “3-putt” and two “4-putt” greens on the day to make sure he would not be taking the Antigua shirt home on this trip.  Not only are the greens super quick, but they are a tricky read as well.Alex Tregurtha had no problem reading those greens (or he should have gotten that caddy number for next time!) and blew away the field with his fine 71 before leaving for the airport.  See you next time mate, we owe you a Monthly Medal winner shirt!  By the way, we have a new batch of our semi-famous Antigua super cool and dry golf shirts in sky blue, orchid, red and lots of new colours and now all sizes, so come by the club and check it out.Just missing out was Scotsman Henry O with a sobering 73 and another guy heading back to work, Larry Maxey with a net 76 to capture 3rd place.  Next month we will play the Monthly Medal at Mountain Shadow.Friday, August 26, Greenwood – Stableford1st Steve Ellison (17) 38pts2nd Wayne Lee (13) 36pts3rd Brad Gearic (13) 29ptsWe have been sooo lucky dodging the rain for the past few weeks it is amazing.  Just a short burst for 2 minutes on the third hole was all that came down for the day.  We did not bother with ‘lift, clean and place’ and it turned out to be the correct decision. We were also lucky to draw the C and B courses on the day.  It has been years since I have played C and it was magnificent.  Steve Ellison and Wayne Lee finished that 9 all even at 21 points, so it was off to B to close the deal. For once, the putter was fully charged and working fine for this scribe who ended up with 38 points –  the best play in ages!  Greenwood was in excellent shape, super lush and maybe the best greens in Pattaya, but then I would think that, wouldn’t I?  As it turned out, the physical advantage of having a cart for the muggy day made the difference but it still came down to the last couple of holes.Wayne Lee played great golf all day and had some booming drives that were 50 yards ahead of us to finish up with 36 points.  Brad “the pilot” Gearic found his 29 points were just enough for his 3rd place finish.  All in all a great day of golf with some great guys.  That’s what it’s all about. Thanks to all for participating in this week’s fixtures, and don’t forget to check us out on  facebook /golfclubpattaya for updates and the September golf schedule..Note:  The Golf Club is located on Soi LK Metro, off Soi Buakhao and Soi Diana junction. The Phenom holds a 24-2 record at the Grandest events of all in sports entertainment and it would be fitting if he were to hang up his boots there when the right time arrives.Questions have once again been raised about Taker’s future in the WWE and many have jumped to the conclusion that WrestleMania 35 could be his last bow. Furthermore, it is also expected that the 53 year old could be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame around the same time, two days prior to the Show Down PPV at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.Advertisement But until then, the WWE Universe can only ponder about a worthy opponent who is capable enough of headlining Undertaker’s final bout.Meanwhile, The Undertaker has been lingering with his retirement for a while now. Following his defeat to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33, The Deadman hinted at parting ways as he laid down his hat, jacket and gloves in the ring and exited the arena.Advertisement However, Taker has been very involved this year in WWE assignments when compared to recent years. He made a brief appearance on SmackDown 1000 last week and sent a very direct message to Degeneration-X ahead of their clash next month where he teams up with his brother Kane against Triple H and Shawn Michaels at WWE Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. On elimination night, Chicago finds way to force game seven

first_imgWill the Vancouver Canucks become the 2011 Stanley Cup version of the Boston Bruins?Canucks fans will find out Tuesday at the Rogers Centre after Ben Smith scored on a rebound at 15:30 of overtime to power the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-3 victory over Vancouver in game six of the Western Conference series Sunday in the Windy City.
The series is tied 3-3 as Chicago rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the best-of-seven series.Smith, a rookie, followed in a long, hard shot from the point by teammate Niklas Hjalmarsson that bounced off goalie Roberto Luongo.Luongo, who didn’t start the game but was called upon in the third period when Cory Schneider had to be helped off the ice when he was injured as he tried to stop Michael Frolik’s penalty shot that tied it at 3-3, had very little work to do in the overtime period as the Canucks pressed for the winner.Daniel Sedin, Alexandre Burrows and Kevin Bieska scored for the Canucks. Bryan Bickell and Dave Bolland added goals for the Blackhawks, who held off Vancouver dominating performance in the third and overtime periods when the Canucks appeared ready to win the game and end the series.
NOTES: The goal by Alex Burrows was his first of the series. … Chicago captain Jonathan Toews is still without a goal. … Chicago is attempting to send the Canucks to the golf course for the third consecutive season. …Chicago’s Brent Seabrook, out for two games following a hard shoulder-to-head hit from Raffi Torres in Game 3, was back in the lineup for game six. …Vancouver played without the services of defenceman Sami Salo for most of the game.last_img read more
