More Australians to holiday in 2012

first_imgYoung Australian’s travelling in Thailand The percentage of Australians intending to travel has increased this year compared to last year and is at an all time high, according to a new study. The research conducted by Roy Morgan found that intention to travel had risen amongst Aussie travellers due to the strong Australian dollar. “Holiday intention increased strongly to 72 percent after the November and December interest rate decreases.“Overseas destinations are becoming more popular, with a historically high 11 percent of Australians saying their next holiday will be overseas,” Roy Morgan international director of tourism, travel & leisure Jane Ianniello said. Destination marketers are identifying the primary methods of reaching and pleasing consumers.“Regardless of whether they plan to holiday in Australia or overseas, almost two-thirds of intending travellers say the internet is the most useful media for selecting travel or accommodation,” Ms Ianniello said.
